Visit the oldest station in Sweden - Gothenburg Central Station, and begin your incredible journey by train. The station has opened its doors in 1858 in the place where a former prison used to stand. Almost hundred years after the start of operations, Gothenburg Main Station was rebuild and enlarged in 1923 and unfortunately caught a fire the same year which destroyed big part of the building. Nowadays, after some more reconstructions, the station still reflects 1923 vision with its wood pillars, limestone floor and ceiling made from glass.
27 million travelers begin or end their rail adventures in this station, which makes Gothenburg Station the second most popular after the
Stockholm Station. While you are waiting for your train, have a wonder around the station and find some interesting pieces of art like a bronze sculpture "Weeping Girl" by Laura Ford. Your time before departure is going to fly by as there are plenty of excellent facilities in the station, including shops, restaurants, cafes and lounges. You can also head out and visit the beautiful center of Gothenburg too.
